Swap favourite moments from Book 2
Relook at how Jeff Lemire builds the story in Book 2. What is the story that is told or are there many stories? What do we learn about life stories? What are the moments of pain in the story?
Ponder: Why does the game of hockey a perfect backdrop for legendary stories?
Respond to some of the quotations in the book such as:
"You know there are only two ways to be completely alone in this world...lost in a crowd or in total isolation (229).
"Hockey captures the essence of Canadian experience in the New world. In a land so inescapably and inhospitably cold, hockey is the chance of life, and an affirmation that despite the deathly chill of winter we are alive." Stephen Leacock (112)
Extend: Relook at pages 331-333. What do you think the character of Lou is feeling in the last panel?
